Buyer Definitely Beware!
After doing business with iPage for 6 years, in March of 2024 I was notified my next year of hosting service would increase from 119.99 (already up 20.00 from prior year), to 234.50 -- an amount more than DOUBLE the prior hosting fees. I spoke with them, and was told I could receive a courtesy 5% discount. Since I was being charged over 100% more, this felt like a joke. I told them I was very frustrated, and did not want to do business with them any longer. Rather than doing as I requested and cancelling my service, they billed me for another year at this horrible amount. I immediately called, and was told that even if I cancelled that same day, they would not refund me anything. Because the billing had already completed, I couldn't stop the payment. I felt trapped. And since then, every time I checked my site, it's been down / "under construction" in spite of me not making any changes. Not only was I billed without authorization, but I didn't receive the services I was billed for. BEWARE THIS COMPANY! Whoever is managing them now are the worst kind of crooks. I am not only cancelling them, but also making sure billing alerts are up to not allow any charges from iPage to be processed. Yes, it's that bad.
DO NOT use iPage. Read all the other recent customer complaints, they're true. We had been with them for 12 years no problems, but since the new owners took over they just helped themselves to more than $1000 from my account in September. I argued that it was completely unauthorised and theft so fortunately they refunded about 95% and also deleted our website. We've gone witg new provider now, no way I'd trust iPage again, I've had to get a new credit card to prevent their access.
Sometimes I can't access FTP or the services panel. I don't visit the site often, but I've experienced it at least 4 times in a year. After that, since yesterday, I can't access the site at all, but I can enter the dashboard or FTP. After creating a ticket for the issue by themselves, it took more than 24 hours and still not resolved. Is it reasonable for this to happen with a paid service?
4 weeks ago 5 of my sites on shared hosting intermittently went off for a few hours at a time. After 3 days the problems stopped. But no explanation. Yesterday all of my sites were taken offline without warning. I spoke to chat and they said there is malware in my account. 16 hours later I have not heard how to remove it, been given URLS or any information. Chat said they would escalate the problem. Escalation to tech support takes in my experience 12 hours to get a reply. The upshot is business lost, Google rankings lost, reputation lost.
Really decent and trustworthy company, hosted one of my sites with them for the past 1 year.
Recommended for people who look for really quick, easy and extremely cheap hosting
