Gambio Review 2024: Looks Good, but What’s the Catch?

Alicia Schneider Written by: Alicia Schneider

Gambio is a new website builder focused on e-commerce. It’s not bad, but the features are a bit limited and support is available in German only. In my opinion, there are better options out there – like Squarespace, which offers strong e-commerce features and more design flexibility1.

Overview

A Website Builder Made for E-commerce Businesses

Gambio is a new website builder based in Germany that claims to provide an all-in-one e-commerce solution with its easy website builder. But does Gambio really have what it takes to make your online store a success?

Gambio offers three paid plans. The main differences between them are the contract duration and the number of features included.

At the moment, the Gambio website and builder are only available in German and English. The customer support is available in German only.

Read on to find out if Gambio is the right choice for building your online store.Gambio homepage

Templates

A Handful of Customizable Templates

Gambio only has eight templates – a very small selection compared to more established website builders like Wix1 and Squarespace1. These templates feature different designs and can be customized to suit your needs. Additionally, all templates are mobile responsive.

Gambio offers eight mobile-responsive templates.
Since Gambio is focused on e-commerce websites, you won’t find different template categories. If you’re looking to build a different type of website, like a blog or a portfolio, this isn’t the website builder for you.

As far as customization, you can easily change certain details like colors, fonts, and background images. You can also drag new sections to a template or remove existing ones. The templates are relatively simple to edit, but I didn’t find the site editor as user-friendly or “fun” as others I’ve tried, like Wix1 for example.

Features

Are the E-commerce Features Really That Powerful?

Gambio has plenty of features made specifically for businesses and online stores. You get multiple shipping methods, detailed product uploads, inventory management, customer management, and legal protection for your store.

Here are a few of the standout features:

  • Marketing tools: Create a newsletter, integrate social media, integrate Google Analytics, and access basic SEO tools.
  • Diverse payment methods: Accept payments via credit card, PayPal, invoicing, Sofort, Klarna, or a number of other payment services.
  • Multichannel selling: List the products in your store on Google Shopping, eBay, or Amazon.

There are many integrations you can add to your store in different categories, including payment processors, price comparisons, ratings and seals of approval, accounting, analytics, and more.

Gambio integrations

1 Gambio has plenty of integration options.
Even with all Gambio’s integrations, the features included aren’t as robust as those offered by other e-commerce website builders. For example, Gambio offers you very limited SEO options for your website compared to competitors like Wix1 or WordPress.com1.

Ease of use

The Site Editor Is Easy to Use, but Is That Enough?

It’s easy to create a website with Gambio. Select a template, customize the design, upload your products, and you’re all set. But is the simple web editor as intuitive and user-friendly as it’s made out to be?

I found it easy to make design changes to the website. However, the site editor, called StyleEdit, was not as smooth or user-friendly as other editors I’ve used. Some elements in StyleEdit are drag-and-drop, while others are point-and-click, and I found it confusing to figure out which was which.

One thing that makes StyleEdit easy to use is that it allows you to view and edit your website for multiple devices. You can set the resolution for desktop, mobile, or tablet in both landscape and portrait modes.

Once you’re in the dashboard, there are tons of details you can add to each product to help you manage your inventory. You can set your total stock, determine individual shipping costs and delays, easily upload custom images, and even have descriptions automatically translated to multiple languages.

Overall, the dashboard is easy to access and use. Unfortunately, you can’t change the look or layout of your website very much, which can be frustrating.

Support

German-Only Support

It was quite surprising that a company that aims to go global only offers support in one language. Many other European-based companies offer support in English or other languages, so this is one area where Gambio falls behind.

When you sign up for Gambio, you get a welcome email with many options for support: a WhatsApp number, a phone number, an email address, online forums, digital guides, and a live chat (though during the few days when I tested the product, I never saw a live chat option, meaning agents weren’t online).

I sent Gambio a simple email inquiry through the online form on the website and got a response in German in less than 24 hours. Sure, you can use an online tool to translate the email, but if you have a very specific question, important details may be lost in translation.

Pricing

Options for Businesses of All Sizes

Gambio doesn’t offer a free plan, but there is a 14-day free trial that gives you access to all the available features. Once you’re ready to sign up, there are three plans to choose from: Startup, Small Business, and Professional. There are no transaction fees, no matter which plan you choose.

You can pay for your plan via credit card or PayPal.

The plans differ in a few ways. You’ll need to sign up for a contract, and the contract duration shortens as the cost of the plan increases. The more expensive plans have more features, as well as access to phone support in addition to email.

I feel that Gambio’s pricing is a little steep, considering it’s a website builder for e-commerce only, without many other options.

Gambio REVIEW: BOTTOM LINE

If you’re looking to create a simple e-commerce website, Gambio may work for you. However, I found there was a language barrier that complicated the entire process, as some of the sections, like signup and customer support,  were only available in German.

If you’re interested in building an online store with additional functions, such as a blog, or if you want more freedom to customize your store as you like, I’d suggest checking out Wix1 or Squarespace1. Not only are these popular builders more affordable – they also have much more to offer.
