Founded in 2013, WELIO offers shared hosting, email hosting, AWS cloud, Virtual Private Servers (VPS), dedicated servers, and domain names. Its hosting servers are located in Munich and Nuremberg, Germany while its dedicated servers are in two locations in Paris, France. Its website is available in Italian only.
Features and Ease of Use
WELIO offers two shared hosting categories: Economic hosting and Professional hosting. These are the features that it offers:
- 99.999% uptime
- Daily automatic backups
- Let’s Encrypt SSL
- Unlimited add-on domains
- Free domain name
- Unlimited traffic
Under Economic hosting, there are two categories. One of them allows you to choose how much storage space you want and the traffic is fixed as unlimited while the other allows you to choose your traffic while the storage space is fixed as unlimited. As you increase the storage or traffic, the other resources (emails, subdomains, etc) increase as well.
WELIO provides 5Gbps to 10Gbps port on the Economic hosting category, while it provides 16Gbps on Professional hosting. That’s wonderful, but be aware that it’s not per website but shared among the customers.
To enhance performance, it provides easy integration with Cloudflare CDN, which speeds up your website with its CDN and load balancing. There are other features as well, including DDoS protection, SSL certificate, and anti-spam.
If you take an Economic hosting plan, you’ll get cPanel, but on Professional hosting, it provides ISPConfig. Personally, I prefer cPanel and if you’re new to hosting, cPanel will definitely be easier for you to use. However, Professional hosting offers more features, which might be what you need.
Fortunately, WELIO offers Softaculous on both the control panel and a website builder with ready-made templates. So that takes a bit of work off of setting up your website.
Also, it provides Attracta SEO tools, which are great for understanding the basics of SEO, creating and submitting your sitemap to search engines, and more.
Pricing and Support
WELIO offers shared hosting plans that are cheap considering the features they provide. But here’s the catch: they don’t offer a one-month hosting subscription. You can only pay for one year or more at a time. The good news is, they throw in a free domain and SSL, which helps bring down your overall hosting expenses.
Depending on the hosting category that you choose, you can pick a CMS that you want so that WELIO installs it for you while setting up your server. Also, it offers an add-on of updating your plugins and themes. However, I don’t see this as a plus because Softaculous does that for you, too.
WELIO accepts payment through PayPal, bank transfer, and credit cards.
Customer support options are a bit of a disappointment as there’s only ticket support. You have to sit and wait for a response, because there’s no phone number or live chat. Even its knowledge base isn’t comprehensive. In my experience with the support team, when I submitted a ticket, I got my response in about two days.
