Founded in 2008, Unhosting.cl is a Chilean hosting provider with a simple English language website. The servers are colocated in a Chilean Tier III data center and it has some clear green credentials.
Features and Ease of Use
Unhosting.cl sells a range of hosting services, including shared hosting plans which come with the following core features:
- 99.96% uptime guarantee
- Periodic backups
- Domain registration available
- Up to 20 add-on domains
- Up to 20GB disk space
- Unlimited monthly transfer
Unhosting.cl has its servers colocated in a data center in Santiago, Chile, connected to 1gbps of redundant national link and with full backup power provided by electric generators and UPSs.
It’s a Tier III data center, which should mean you get less than 1.6 hours of downtime per year. However, the actual uptime guarantee is 99.6%, which is quite a bit lower than the industry average.
The plans come with cPanel access, an easy to use control panel, as well as all of the usual features like MySQL databases, phpMyAdmin, and support for all versions of PHP. For designers, there’s Frontpage, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and Corel.
If you’re a beginner, you’ll want to select the top plan which comes with Sitebuilder and approximately 90 auto-installable applications via a one-click installer.
Pricing and Support
The plans start quite affordably, however, the resource allocations and features are low. For instance, the base plan only includes 500MB disk space and one domain, so it’s unlikely to be enough for even the most basic websites. What’s more, if you want any of the beginner-friendly features, you need to upgrade all the way to the very expensive top tier plan.
The contract lengths available depend on which plan you select e.g., the cheaper plans are only available in six or 12-month terms, while the premium plans can also be purchased in one-month terms. While there’s no discount for purchasing a longer-term upfront, you do get a 30-day money-back guarantee.
You can reach customer service through the online contact form, email, live chat, and telephone. Live chat and tickets are available 24/7, while the other methods are available from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday to Friday.
I did try to contact the team on live chat at around 10:00 a.m. on a weekday morning. A bot replied and let me know that someone would contact me via email as soon as possible. I waited for a few business days to get a reply, but did not hear back.
