Features and Ease of Use
PlotHost offers a simple selection of website hosting plans including shared hosting and reseller hosting. They do not offer domain registration, dedicated server rental or virtual private servers.
As standard, their shared hosting plans benefit from the following core features:
- 99.9% uptime guarantee
- From three to fifteen add-on domains
- Free Let’s Encrypt SSL certificates
- From 2 GB to 15 GB disk space
- From 20 GB to 150 GB monthly data transfer
PlotHost uses CentOS Linux (which means a lightweight, fast, and reliable operating system for your server) and RAID 10 storage for much faster disk read times.
What’s most unique about PlotHost is their hands-on approach. Their information technology experts roll up their sleeves to help new clients set up their website, install scripts, configure email addresses, and even optimize for search engines. Put simply, they go above an beyond what is offered by most website hosting providers.
Whilst they don’t offer a huge variety of packages, the ones they do offer have cleverly crafted inclusions to please both beginners and experts. Beginners can benefit from the one-click installer that offers a premium 400 programs. Experts will like the support for PHP 7 and advanced scripting languages such as Ruby on Rails.
Pricing and Support
Given the level of hands-on assistance provided by PlotHost, I was expecting highly priced packages. However, I was very pleasantly surprised to see that – while not exactly cheap – their prices are very good value-for-money given the level of features. All plans come with a free SSL certificate, but domain registration costs extra.
Two billing terms are offered, monthly and yearly, and you get a discount equal to two months free when you purchase shared or reseller hosting upfront for a year. And to make your yearly purchase a little less risky, they offer a 15-day money-back guarantee with all their hosting plans.
PlotHost’s customer service slightly disappoints as they only offer support through a ticketing system or email, without any telephone or live chat support. However, it’s worth noting that they do provide a comprehensive knowledge base for customers who prefer self-support, which sets them apart from many other similar companies.
