Created in 1998, Orbis offers web hosting services, domain registration, website design, and SSL certificates. It has successfully hosted its customers with servers that are collocated in a data center in Croatia and The U.S.
Its website is available in Croatian and English, but some information is omitted in the English version.
Features and Ease of Use
You can host small and medium-sized business websites on any of the three Linux or three Windows business shared hosting plans. Personal websites and email accounts can be hosted on any of the two private plans under shared hosting.
Some of the features that shared hosting customers get include:
- 99.9% average uptime
- SSL certificates on some plans
- Automated daily/weekly backups
- From 200MB to 10GB SSD disk storage
- Up to five add-on domains
- Free domain registration
Orbis provides cPanel in all hosting accounts, which is relatively easy to use for first-timers. There’s the Softaculous plugin available which you can use to install web applications like WordPress in a few clicks, however, there’s no free website builder.
There is a website builder available, SSW Site Builder. However, if you want to use it, you’ll have to either purchase the site builder plan or contact customer support for custom pricing. The restriction to the use of this builder might likely be because it offers web development services, so it gains either by your paying for its builder or custom website design.
If you need additional space, you can choose any of the unlimited shared hosting plans. For better security, you can choose any its VPS packages. The top plan offers 200GB SSD, which is enormous for most business websites. On that plan, the bandwidth is 2TB, and you also get shell access, which is not possible on the shared hosting.
Pricing and Support
Orbis offers shared hosting at reasonable prices. Additionally, they provide a free SSL certificate and domain registration for the first year.
You can’t pay for one-month hosting. Pricing is only available for one year or more for the shared hosting. There’s no free trial either, so you’ll have to commit your money before you can really get a complete picture of whether or not the service is right for you.
Orbis has a 30-day money-back guarantee policy. This means that your risk is mitigated because you can request a refund within 30 days of your purchase if you’re not satisfied.
There’s a knowledge base if you wish to solve issues on your account quicklyon your own. If that fails or you’d rather discuss issues with an agent, you can reach technical customer support through email, a support ticket, phone, fax, or live chat. The live chat is not 24/7 and given that I needed answers outside of work hours, I submitted a ticket and received a reply less than 15 minutes later.
