Features and Ease of Use
Oderland offers a wide selection of website hosting services, from basic shared hosting to enterprise-level dedicated servers and virtual private servers. They also offer managed WordPress hosting as well as SSL certificates and consultancy services.
As standard, their shared website hosting plans include the following features:
- 99.6% uptime guarantee
- Automatic backups retained for up to three months
- Domain registration available at additional cost
- Unlimited domains
- Free SSL certificates
- From 20 GB to 130 GB disk space
- 2000 GB to 5000 GB monthly traffic
Their pretty substantial shared hosting plans offer unlimited mailboxes, domains, and MySQL databases. They also provide a premium one-click installer for more than 380 applications, plus support for multiple different PHP versions and advanced scripting languages such as Node.js, Python, and Ruby.
Oderland owns its own data center, which generally means faster website load speeds and a much faster response time to issues. Given their professional website and comprehensive services, I’m somewhat surprised that they don’t provide more detailed information about their infrastructure and hardware. However, I do know that they have full redundancy and a guaranteed uptime of 99.6% (but with no details of what you get if this promise isn’t met).
Pricing and Support
Compared to international providers, Oderland is expensive. Compared with the equally-expensive local Swedish competition, however, their prices are comparable. Maybe it doesn’t matter because their mainly-Swedish website is aiming to attract mainly-Swedish customers who are used to paying a Scandinavian premium.
Contracts are offered on quarterly, biannual, annual, biennial, and triennial terms, and the price is significantly reduced if you pay for at least one year upfront. There is no money-back guarantee, but there is a free trial – which would be even better if only I knew for how long.
Technical, sales and financial support phone lines are open 7.00am to 9.00pm (Monday to Thursday), 7.00am to 7.00pm (Friday), and 10.00am to 3.00pm (at weekends). But they are closed between 2.30pm and 3.30pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and between 11.30am and 12.00pm on Saturdays and Sundays. You can also contact this company via live chat and email. I’ve found the support staff to be been polite, prompt and helpful.
Oderland has a fully stocked help center and an online server status page. What’s interesting is that you can switch between the Swedish and English languages on their support pages without needing to rely on Google’s browser-based translation.
