Neunet Bt. was established in 2006, when its name was Neunet Health and Informatics Service Company and its primary focus was on serving the medical community (especially in the field of neurology).
The company has now suspended its neurological activity to focus on providing fairly standard shared hosting services. It offers dynamic and static websites, webshop creation, domain registration, SEO, Linux administration, and other I.T. services.
Neunet is based in Budapest and its website is in Hungarian.
Features and Ease of Use
Neunet provides several simple hosting solutions. There are two WordPress hosting plans (WP100 and WP250), two Joomla hosting plans (JOO100 and JOO250), five PHP dynamic hosting plans (DIN100 to DIN2500) and five static HTML hosting plans (STA100 to STA2500). You may already have figured out that the first part of each plan name reflects the type of plan and the second part indicates the amount of storage in megabytes.
To complete the set, there are two additional flexible hosting plans (DINMY and STAMY) that can be customized to suit your needs.
Since all hosting is on Neunet’s own Linux servers, anyone wanting Windows hosting will have to look elsewhere, but you will get the following with these plans:
- PHP
- DNS
- FTP
- WordPress or Joomla (on the relevant pans)
What you won’t find here (well, I didn’t) is any beginner-friendly website builder or one-click installer, nor SSD storage as far as I can see.
Neunet presents itself as a complete I.T. solutions company, providing web design, Linux administration, I.T. security, and SEO services. However, some of its links lead off to another I.T. company’s website.
One thing that makes me nervous about this provider, other than its unattractive website, is the lack of any uptime indication. But they do say, “Thanks to our high-quality, reliable server rooms, we can provide high-quality, reliable access to the domain servers and web hosts on our servers.” This is probably as close to a guarantee as we’re going to get.
Pricing and Support
Neunet’s shared hosting plans are affordably priced, but you’d need to add 27% VAT to reach the final price. Most plans – priced in Hungarian forint – can be purchased on a monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, or annual basis.
I noticed that many of these plans’ detail pages don’t open, which makes me wonder if they are still on offer at all. The order process itself also seems to be insecure (not HTTPS), at least until any final payment step.
You can reach out to Neunet’s customer support staff via phone, email, and an online form. My exploratory email elicited no response, which makes me worry even more about the vitality of this provider, although the company did post something on its blog as recently as December 2018.
Neunet’s main support page is somewhat strange since it is populated with “lorem ipsum” placeholder text. And the limited FAQ page contains just four entries, but they’re more like tutorials than brief answers
