MyDomain started out in 1998, since when it has been at the forefront of the web hosting and domain industries. Today, it is owned by the Endurance International Group, and it offers website hosting, email hosting, and VPS hosting plans along with domain services and website design.
MyDomain’s website is in English.
Features and Ease of Use
MyDomain offers three Linux shared hosting plans and three Windows shared hosting plans, in both cases these are named Basic, Deluxe, and Ultra. With these plans, you get:
- Free domain (for the first term)
- Unlimited disk space
- Scalable bandwidth
- Hosting for 1 to unlimited domains
- 5 to unlimited FTP accounts
- SSL support
- 10 to unlimited MySQL databases (for Linux plans)
- 10 to 50 MSSQL databases (for Windows plans)
- 100 to unlimited email addresses
- Support for PHP 5.3 to 7.1 (on Linux plans)
- Support for PHP 5 and ASP.NET (on Windows plans)
The hosting plans come with popular CMS and other applications such as WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, CubeCart, osTicket, and phpBB, which you can use to build your blogs, forums, online stores and much more. MyDomain also supports a drag-and-drop SiteBuilder, which you can use to create your website without any prior web design or coding experience.
The SiteLock CDN improves your website loading speed by minimizing the virtual distance between your website’s server and your visitors.
MyDomain’s green credentials extend to it offsetting 150% of its data center power usage by purchasing renewable energy credits (for wind energy power) from Bonneville Environmental Foundation.
The redundant network, which boasts Tier-1 Gigabit and OCx internet connections, provides customers with lightning-fast services with rock-solid stability. Although this provider doesn’t offer an uptime guarantee, it has a 99.99%+ network uptime track record.
Pricing and Support
MyDomain’s shared hosting plans are priced competitively. One caveat is that the promotional prices revert to regular rates of up to three times the industry average at renewal.
Another caveat is that several pay-for add-ons can be selected at the checkout, including domain privacy (checked by default), WordPress optimization, website builder, website security (checked by default), G Suite, and backup/restore (checked by default). Selecting these options, or forgetting to unselect them, will further increase the costs.
You can pay for plans in U.S. Dollars via PayPal or credit card on annual, biennial, or triennial billing cycles, but there are no discounts for longer commitments as far as I can see.
Since the minimum commitment is a year, it’s worth noting that the 30-day money-back guarantee can get you out if you’re not completely satisfied within the first month. Keep in mind that any refund will have a non-refundable fee deducted for your domain name.
MyDomain’s 24/7 customer support can be accessed via telephone or live chat. I tested the live chat channel.
For self-support, MyDomain publishes a knowledge base, and remote assistance is available via the Glance screen-sharing application.
