Mundo Net Colombia was founded in 2004 with the aim of providing individuals and companies in the Caribbean and Latin America with hosting and other services to support their online presence. Apart from web hosting with cPanel, the company also offers reseller web hosting on Linux servers, audio streaming on Shoutcast servers, and domain registration/transfer solutions.
Mundo Net’s website supports Spanish, but some of the customer support and ordering areas also support 25 additional languages.
Features and Ease of Use
Mundo Net Colombia offers five shared hosting plans and four reseller plans. All shared hosting plans run on CentOS Linux servers and come with the Fantastico auto-installer. The plans vary in terms of disk space (500 MB to 100 GB), bandwidth (1500 MB to unlimited), and the number of domains (1 to 10). Although the entry plan’s disk space is reasonable enough, the bandwidth could be too low for some sites.
With the five shared hosting plans, you get:
- FTP access
- Daily backups
- Cron jobs
- cPanel in Spanish
Anyone looking for e-commerce features will be pleased with the 100% compatibility with X-Cart, Zen Cart, and PrestaShop.
A distinctive feature that you won’t find with many other hosts is Mundo Net’s Shoutcast servers with Centova Cast (in Spanish) for audio streaming, which has delivered more than seven million hours of audio streaming.
You get a 99.9% uptime guarantee, which is lower than the industry average, but Mundo Net uses Synapse and Axon monitoring which warns of serve problems pretty quickly.
Pricing and Support
Mundo Net Colombia’s shared hosting plans are cheap, and you can save as much as 50% if you purchase the plans for one or two years. With no free trial but possibly a money-back guarantee (buried in the terms and conditions), you might feel that you’re taking a leap of faith with a two-year commitment.
You’ll have to pay extra to have your site secured with SSL. But on the plus side, if you move to Mundo from another host, it will credit the cost of a domain, which means that in effect you get a free domain.
You can pay for plans on an annual, biennial, or triennial basis by bank transfer or credit/debit card.
Mundo Net’s customer support can be accessed by email, Skype, telephone, or ticket system. I failed to connect with support staff via live chat, but this should provide you with yet another support channel. Fortunately, my ticket submission received a response within ten hours:
This provider has a set of FAQs where you would usually expect to find a knowledge base, but it’s not particularly well populated.
