Founded in April 2016, Mixhost is a web hosting company operating out of Tokyo, Japan. It doesn’t serve small businesses, and as such, doesn’t offer shared hosting. From this provider, you can get cloud and other servers. Its website is available in Japanese only.
Features and Ease of Use
Through its servers, Mixhost offers a range of services and one of them is servers that are optimized for WordPress. Those come with the following features:
- 99.99% uptime
- Free SSL certificates
- Between 200GB to 600GB storage
- Up to 8TB bandwidth
- Up to 12vCPUs / 32GB RAM
As you can see from the resources above, this service isn’t for simple corporate websites or a starter hobby blog as the resources are way too extensive for those.
Also, Mixhost isn’t the best beginner-friendly host. Developers and DevOps will enjoy the freedom of SSH access and other top-notch features, but beginners are left to stumble their way through designing a website. The good thing, though, is that for resource management, Mixhost helps with the provisioning of cPanel, which is quite easy for most people to use.
Mixhost offers server security through multiple means that include a web application firewall, virus scanning, intrusion prevention and detection, and remote backups that are kept for 14 days. Also, it uses RAID configuration for its storage to ensure that customers’ data is not lost in the event of hardware failure.
Mixhost does well for performance tools. For one, it uses SSDs, which are proven to be way faster than HDDs, so its performance level is high. Plus, the RAID configuration it uses is RAID 10, which does well with read speeds.
It doesn’t end there; Mixhost uses the LiteSpeed web server, which is faster than Apache. With this, you get PHP processing of up to 50% faster than Apache as well as other benefits. One thing that’s compatible with LiteSpeed is the LiteSpeed Cache which serves your customers cached content, thus reducing load time.
Pricing and Support
New customers on Mixhost get a 10-day free trial to get a feel for the servers. If after this period you are ok with paying, you can pay for a month at a time. Its prices are quite cheap in comparison with the resources on offer. Frankly, I expected higher charges.
The vendor offers complimentary SSL certificates, eliminating the need for additional payments, even when utilizing a cloud server. Regrettably, they do not offer a money-back guarantee.
Customer support is available through its help center and a contact form. Unfortunately, there’s no phone or live chat, and it doesn’t respond over weekends. Replies will be received only during its business hours (10:00 AM – 6:00 PM on Monday to Friday). I filled the form out in English, and got a response the next day in Japanese.
