InfinityFree Hosting Review: Is It REALLY Free? [2024]

Caitlin Greyling Written by: Caitlin Greyling

InfinityFree claims to offer free, ad-free hosting, without any ads on your site. So what’s the catch? Over a period of three months, I tested its customer support, checked the dashboard for ease of use, and ran performance tests. While I was prepared for some of the disappointment I experienced, I was also reasonably impressed with some of its features.

InfinityFree Pros, Cons, & Things That Could Be Better

  • Completely free hosting with no ads
  • Softaculous installer with 400+ scripts
  • PHP & MySQL support ideal for WordPress
  • Storage space is limited to 5 GB
  • Only suitable for very basic websites
  • No option to buy or upgrade resources
  • Knowledge base and forum support only

Not all free web hosting is actually free. Some companies can mislead you by offering a certain number of days for free, or a free trial period, just so you can later find out that they are not free forever.

Then, there are hosting services that are free to use, but come at a price. Either by wasting your important resources like time, spamming your site visitors with ads, or offering you extremely limited storage space and bandwidth.

As its name implies, InfinityFree does offer a free hosting option (and without ads too). However, it does this by offering a compromised hosting experience that’s only a good fit for the most basic websites.

Hostinger provides you with all the features that InfinityFree is missing, and more. Not only that, but Hostinger achieved an excellent score in our performance tests1.

While I think InfinityFree’s utility is limited overall, read on to learn why it might be the perfect host for you, depending on your needs.

Features and Ease of Use

InfinityFree offers free hosting with a number of additional free and unlimited features:

Although the company provides free storage and “unlimited” bandwidth, don’t have high expectations for its services. It offers free hosting, so you shouldn’t expect the best of services. For these “unlimited” services, InfinityFree has lots of limits for server resources. For instance, the free storage only amounts to 5 GB, which isn’t much disk space to host a website in this day and age.

InfinityFree free web hosting features
InfinityFree offers a lot of free (but limited) features with its hosting

If you want to host a website with a few images, you’re likely to get hit with a “server limit reached” message or similar even before you finish building the website. If you want to run a text-based hobby website or want to test something really simple, then you can try out InfinityFree. For other things, including a simple company website, you should look elsewhere. Hostinger is a great almost-free option1 that offers generous resources and fast speeds at low prices.

It’s also important to note that InfinityFree supports the installation of Let’s Encrypt, ZeroSSL, GoGetSSL, and Cloudflare SSL certificates. However, let’s Encrypt may not be the best option if you opt for a free InfinityFree subdomain. Let’s Encrypt only issues a limited number of certificates per domain, meaning InfinityFree can’t provide enough SSLs for every subdomain customer under its name.

InfinityFree includes free SSLs, external domain connection, and full access

Despite its limitations, InfinityFree does do well for beginners with the Softaculous application installer. Experienced users can program their website with PHP and choose the version that they prefer. Also, the company provides 400 MySQL databases, Linux operating system, and Apache webserver. To enhance performance, it helps customers easily connect with Cloudflare CDN from their control panel.

Money-back guarantee* Forever free hosting (no charge)
Uptime guarantee 99.9%
Control panel cPanel
Data centers 1 in the UK

As you can see, this isn’t a bad choice as far as free hosting is concerned. But if you’re looking for hosting with enough features for a serious website, but that is not free yet still cheap, try Hostinger.

Support

Given its lack of money-making from customers, InfinityFree doesn’t provide one-on-one support, so you can’t call or email for support. It explicitly states that its provided email address is not for support.

However, there’s a robust knowledge base and a forum that’s filled with already answered questions and solutions. InfinityFree’s search engine is powerful, so you can find your answer quickly. If it isn’t there, you can ask and are likely to get a response. These are some of the results that I got from its search engine:

InfinityFree Hosting knowledge base.
InfinityFree’s knowledge base is packed full of answers.

Pricing

As I mentioned above, InfinityFree hooks you up with a free web hosting service. There’s no money involved. If you don’t want to or don’t have the cash to buy a domain, you can use their free subdomain or buy a domain elsewhere and connect it for free.

However, as mentioned above, you shouldn’t use the service for more than hobby websites. You’d be much better off trying out Hostinger1 or another top-rated, almost-free host. InfinityFree is definitely one of the best free hosts out there, but free hosting has its limitations. It’s not suitable for e-commerce, media-rich, or traffic-heavy sites.

And how is everything InfinityFree offers free, you might ask? Well… the company still makes money, but from ads. The ads don’t show on customers’ websites but on InfinityFree’s company website and your control panel.

InfinityFree REVIEW: BOTTOM LINE

If you’re looking for a free hosting service, you can check out InfinityFree. You won’t get ads placed on your website, but you can’t do much with such limited disk space besides a little bit of text and very few pages. If you try to put lots of graphics, your website will be taken down because the provided resources can’t handle it.

This is part of the reason I wouldn’t recommend InfinityFree, especially when there are much better options out there. For example, Hostinger offers high-quality hosting at a price so cheap1 it’s almost free.
Pros Cons
  • Totally free web hosting
  • No ads on customers’ websites
  • cPanel is provided for management
  • Fantastic knowledge base and forum
  • Insufficient for business websites
  • Can’t get email or phone support

FAQ

How much does it cost to host a website with InfinityFree?

Promising to offer free hosting for as long as it exists, InfinityFree doesn’t even subsidize its costs through advertising on your hosted site. Instead, it does so on its own site. If you’d prefer to get premium features like email accounts, FTP accounts, and “more server power” (although InfinityFree doesn’t actually say what “more” means), you can sign up via InfinityFree’s partner, iFastNet.

Which is better value, InfinityFree or Hostinger?

Despite InfinityFree’s Free Hosting plan not costing a penny, Hostinger’s cheapest plans give you better value. With LiteSpeed server software, SSD storage, and 24/7/365 support, Hostinger offers better performance and many useful features that InfinityFree doesn’t. InfinityFree’s lack of features – no optimized server tech and no email or phone support, for example – means you’re likely better off with Hostinger’s bargain prices than you would be with a free hosting plan.

Is InfinityFree’s unlimited hosting really unlimited?

Offering 5 GB storage and unlimited bandwidth, InfinityFree appears to be providing a lot more than most free hosts do. But keep in mind that you’ll very likely be sharing CPU and RAM with many other customers. So while you can put up as much content or install as many WordPress plugins as you wish, performance is unlikely to be top-notch all the time.

Why don’t you recommend free web hosting?

Free hosting is usually under-resourced, slow, and (occasionally) a way to gather personal data to sell on later. I’m not accusing InfinityFree of doing the latter, but there certainly are predators out there wanting to mine your data.

To avoid these problems, I recommend you consider an entry-level plan from a reputable hosting company. Check out our 10 best web hosting services for 2024 to find a provider that will give you a decent-quality budget hosting plan.

Quite good

It's a little difficult to set up for people like me who have never set up a site before, but once I got it working, it works quite well. My hobbyist site has low traffic (5 to 25 users a day) so this is perfect for me. Minor issues like WP cronjobs not working and the site being a little slow to load, but it's more than sufficient for getting started, and for hobby sites.

Hands down THE FASTEST FREE HOST

I have tested THEM ALL 60+ days, with a freenom domain name (A free ".ml" domain). - 90% as fast & featured as Host Koala's Standard Plan $5/Year - NO ADs + FREE & AUTO SSL cert (works on sub domains) - UNLIMITED Sub-domains & MySQL Databases - NOTHING "OFF" (but ImageMagick, its disabled) - SMTP Email works (with WP plugins)

Can’t complain

Everything works as it should. No ads and everything for FREE: CPanel, SSL, subdomain (like .rf.gd). Limited server resources, so better focus on a static website only using html and css. Avoid scrips or WordPress and you will be happy with inifinityfree.

Utter garbage.

For a free hosting service it seemed great, albeit the speed has always been on the slower but hey it was free I wasn't going to complain. That is not the issue. The issue is that they love to suspend websites and accounts for no apparent reason. It happened to me and it will probably happen to you if you try and use it. Don't bother.

Not pretty good… Excellent Advertising gimmicks…

I really get screwed up for hosting a piece of WordPress framework and hitting the limits without any big tasks... they say it's free. Unlimited Storage and Unlimited Bandwith... This big fat word "unlimited" makes people fall and they force to buy premium hosting. Tons of spam mail from them piling at my inbox for no reason and getting suspended for even a few little server-side tasks. Infinityfree is not meant for any dynamic websites. It is only meant for well-optimized process less static websites. It even says they give unlimited storage. max upload size is 10mb. Okay, it's good for free hosting. But they impose an inode limit of 30k. WP based websites are not suitable as it takes more inode usage. A single image would be resized into 10 different images and it hits the limit in no time. plugins also consume tons of inodes.

Infinityfree absolutely a pain in the a$$

I'm on my 3rd day trying to upload via ftp. Still 890 files to go and most of them are rejected due to size and other authentication errors even tho I am using the right user info. Not recommended at all. The file manager does not have a extractor tool, it's ok if it's for free but if you want to host even a small website save yourself a headache.

Infinity Free Plan is an Utter Joke.. Don’t Waste Your Time!

I don't usually post a review but today I feel I have a responsibility and urge to share my experience. This infinity free hosting is a big joke. They say unlimited everything but trust me if you attempt to move your wordpress website.. You will just waste your time and get so angry. I recently moved mine and here are the downsides I found: - Can't install wordpress plugins from repo (only ftp install) - PHP execution time is 20 seconds ( rendering a website that uses a few plugins slow as a turtle) - You can't install external free ssl services (They force you to use a broken ssl tool or buy premium) - Many random 500x server errors affecting your SERPs significantly. - Slow FTP with 5 transfer limitation. - Extracting archive files even small ones of 20 mb through file manager take literally hours (potatoe cpu). - 4 options to change in php settings (wow!!!) - Get suspended for having a loop error or a bit of traffic. I have never been this angry in my life to google "infinity free review" and post a negative review. Thank you websiteplanet for this opportunity.
