Hostmate is an Australia-based company that offers web hosting, web design, and domain services. The company has been operating since 1999 with a website in English and servers in Sydney, Australia.
Features and Ease of Use
Hostmate offers three hosting plans that come with weekly automatic backups of which two are retained and can be easily restored from the control panel. These are some of the other features:
- 99.99% uptime
- Five, 10, or 15 websites per plan
- Free SSL certificates
- Up to 900GB bandwidth
- 10GB, 20GB, or 30GB storage
Hostmate’s hosting plans are optimized for WordPress, though it isn’t automatically installed. Here, you get an auto-installer – Softaculous – that works well and is very easy to use for beginners to install the CMS.
Softaculous also works for hundreds of other applications, so if you need PrestaShop, phpBB, or Joomla!, you can easily set them up with the installer as well. Furthermore, its plans come with cPanel, so you can upload your custom coded website easily either through its file manager or FTP. It provides unlimited MariaDB/MySQL and supports PHP, CGI, Perl, SSI, Cron Jobs, Curl, and GD 2.
If your website is on Shopify, Wix, and website builders that don’t provide email accounts, you can use Hostmate for email accounts only. All you need do is contact the sales team about this need and they will set it up for you. Its servers are configured to prevent compromised spamming email accounts from delivering and compromising other email accounts and IP addresses.
Hostmate’s network is protected against DDoS attacks through Black Lotus’ range of tools to mitigate attacks and protect against malicious traffic.
Pricing and Support
Hostmate’s prices are pretty cheap for the features that the company provides. Given that its plans suit small to medium-sized websites, it’s only fair to offer prices that are affordable for businesses in that category. Plus, it offers short-term subscriptions including one-month and three-month options.
If you wish to transfer your website from another host but prefer not to handle the technicalities, simply reach out to Hostmate’s support. They will gladly manage the transfer process for you without any charge. Please note that this service is exclusively available to those using cPanel.
You can upgrade or downgrade your plan at any time from your account. It accepts credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Diners Club) and PayPal. If you’re not satisfied with the service, you can get a refund within 30 days of your purchase.
Support is available through email, a physical mailing address, and ticket. I sent an email and got a reply shortly after.
