GreyHosting was initially founded in 1991 to provide IT services. In 2011, it got a new identity and its current services include domain name registration, shared hosting, reseller hosting, VPS, and dedicated servers. Its website is available in English.
Features and Ease of Use
GreyHosting’s shared plans are in three categories: Windows hosting, Linux hosting, and WordPress hosting. Each of these has three plans each, all with the following features:
- 99.9% uptime guarantee
- Free SSL certificates
- From 10GB to unlimited disk space
From 150GB to unlimited bandwidth
Its Linux and WordPress plans use cPanel, but given that cPanel doesn’t support Windows OS, GreyHosting provides Plesk control panel to Windows hosting customers. These two control panels have a simple graphic user interface (GUI). They are effective in the management of databases, email accounts, and any other aspect of hosting accounts.
From the control panel, you can get access to the one-click installer. With this, you can install several scripts to run on your blog, forum, or E-commerce platform.
GreyHosting offers free SSL certificates on all its shared plans. Not only does this protect sensitive information collected on your website, it also affects SEO. Google flags websites that don’t have SSL certificates and you definitely don’t want website visitors getting a “not secure” notice when they visit your website.
Performance is a big deal when choosing a hosting provider. It will affect how fast your website loads and the overall user experience. GreyHosting makes an effort in this area, by providing solid state disk (SSD) for storage.
GreyHosting also provides VPS and dedicated server hosting services. When your website becomes busy and needs more resources than a shared environment can offer, you can always switch to either of these services.
Pricing and Support
As mentioned earlier, GreyHosting has three categories of shared plans. The WordPress hosting plans are more expensive than others, while the Linux plans are cheaper. These prices are all affordable, even for an individual hosting for the first time.
Subscription periods are monthly, quarterly, semiannual, and annual. To purchase any of its plans, you’ll need to make payments through PayPal or credit cards.
The company does have a refund policy. Just in case its service is not satisfactory, you can request your money back within 30 days of subscribing. However, the fee for the number of days you have used its service will be deducted before the refund is issued.
If you have any complaints or questions, the GreyHosting support team can be reached through a live chat, email address, ticketing system, or phone number. I tried contacting them via email, but regrettably, I never received a reply.
