Features and Ease of Use
If you’re looking for a web host with a solid group of essential features, then eHost is definitely worth checking out. They offer the following features standard:
- Free domain
- Website builder with templates
- At least 25 email addresses
- Supports multiple subdomains
- Host from 10 to 100 domains
It should be noted that many hosts only offer single domain support for their basic accounts and eHost starts you at ten, making it a viable option for those with just a handful of sites.
They also offer various features are sometimes hard to find as “standard” features. They include:
- Multiple antivirus scanners (FTP, Email)
- Online shop tools available
- Cron access
- Email tools (Spam filter, autoresponder)
- Support for Perl, Php5
- Daily backups
Webstore tools are available on all accounts, allowing you to sell your products online. Advanced email tools are also an added plus. More advanced users will appreciate Cron access to automate maintenance or system administration.
For those that are newbies to website hosting, you’re in luck because eHost offers a website builder with customizable templates. This way you don’t need to hire someone else to make your site.
If you have more experience in website hosting and design, you’ll appreciate the user-friendly cPanel along with FTP access that will allow you to upload site elements directly. So whether you want eHost to help you build your site, or you want to create it from scratch, you can do so here.
Pricing and Support
EHost offers four level of service with the primary difference being storage space, bandwidth, and the number of databases and email accounts provided. Their service tiers are below:
Start | Mini | Standard | Pro | |
Storage | 3GB | 7GB | 15GB | 30GB |
Bandwidth (Annual) | 72GB | 180GB | 480GB | 960GB |
Email Accounts | 25 | 50 | Unlimited | Unlimited |
MySQL Databases | 2 | 15 | 30 | 60 |
Domains supported | 10 | 25 | 50 | 100 |
Two things catch your attention. First, the bandwidth cap is calculated on an annual basis instead of a monthly basis. This means you’ll have a monthly bandwidth allowance ranging from six to 80GB. The upside is that you don’t have to concern yourself with a monthly bandwidth limit. However, if you regularly serve a large amount of multimedia content, you may find the Start and Mini plans somewhat restrictive over time.
Next, the number of domains supported is quite generous for the first couple of plans, but then it becomes more restrictive. If you have a vast network of websites, then this service may not be for you.
While eHost doesn’t offer a free plan, they do have a 14-day money back guarantee on most plans except for their Start plan. That only has a 10-day guarantee.
One area I was somewhat disappointed with was in eHost’s customer support. They do have a good bit of technical documentation, but you have to dig a bit. Also, it appears that the search feature for their support database is non-functional.
If you need to speak with someone regarding a problem, you only have a couple of options. While they offer phone support, they don’t provide a toll-free line for international customers. Also, it only operates from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Polish time. The only other form of support they offer is email support. They presently don’t provide live chat support.
One thing that I do like about their support is that there is a 24/7 emergency number in the event of a server outage. At least you can get hold of someone if the servers go down after hours.
The only other potential knock against this site regarding support is that the site is only in Polish and you have to use Google Translate to view the site in other languages. This may cause some confusion in understanding some of the support documentation.
