Dotname Review 2024 – Is It Worth It?

Mark Holden Written by: Mark Holden

Dotname’s plus points are a wide range of Linux and Windows plans and an extensive self-support knowledge base. Its website can be confusing when translated from Korean into English.

Overview

According to its Facebook page, Korea-based Dotname was established in 1998. This hosting “old hand” dubs itself “Korea’s leading hosting provider”, and it aims to provide its customers with technologically advanced hosting solutions.

Dotname offers a wide variety of hosting services, including shared hosting, WordPress hosting, cloud hosting, dedicated servers, and virtual servers. Its servers sit in an IDC data center in Korea.

This vendor’s informative website looks messy when translated into English, but maybe it would be less so in its native Korean. All prices are displayed in Korean won.

Features and Ease of Use

Dotname offers a broad spectrum of Linux and Windows shared hosting solutions. Some of the notable features are:

  • PHP support
  • MS SQL, MySQL, and phpMyAdmin
  • FTP access
  • ASP.NET, HTML, and Ajax
  • Zend Optimizer
  • Apache webserver
  • CDN

As you can see, all the hosting essentials are provided, and you get 150 MB to 32 GB storage plus unmetered monthly bandwidth. The CDN speeds up page loading (by caching content locally) and helps protect you against some kinds of cyberattacks.

Dotname enables both beginners and experts to effortlessly experiment with Linux or Windows shared hosting solutions. If coding is not your preference, you have the option to utilize the website builder (at an additional cost), which comes with 180+ ready-made website templates.

Pricing and Support

Dotname’s prices range from affordable to expensive, but there is sure to be something for everyone. You can get discounts for annual subscriptions, and there is even a free web hosting plan that allows you to try before you buy.

For assistance, you can contact the customer support team by telephone, ticket, or email. And remote assistance is also available. One of the best things about this host is the extensive knowledge base for self-support:

Dotname REVIEW: BOTTOM LINE

Dotname’s set of hosting plans — from simple shared hosting to dedicated servers — make it appealing to a wide range of customers. Although its knowledge base is impressive, the rest of the website is poorly designed and full of popup ads.

Pros

  • A variety of hosting plans
  • CDN
  • Free web hosting plan
  • Extensive knowledge base

Cons

  • Website only in Korean
  • Site builder sold separately
