Although Dexus was established in April 2003, this Czech company’s founders have experience of operating in the internet services market since the mid-1990s, and commercially since 1999. Dexus sells web hosting, domain registration, and web design services from its old-style Czech-language website.
Features and Ease of Use
Dexus offers three shared web hosting plans (called DexusFine, DexusBasic, and DexusProfi) along with four server hosting plans that allow you to colocate your servers on rack space in a Prague server room.
The shared hosting plans provide you with:
- 1 GB to 50 GB web space
- Monthly web traffic from 100 GB to more than 1,000 GB (1 TB)
- From 5 to 100 email addresses with unlimited aliases
- PHP and MySQL
- Daily data backups
- Antivirus and antispam
The two higher plans provide support for popular content management systems such as WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, and PrestaShop. You can secure your site using SSL at extra cost, which is disappointing since most hosts let you secure your site for free with a Let’s Encrypt certificate. Other items you can pay for include mailing/distribution lists, backups, and DNS record management.
If you’re not confident in building your own website from scratch and you’re not interested in using a CMS to handle your content, you have another option: you can rely on the Dexus web design and management services.
Pricing and Support
The shared hosting plans are pricey, with the starting plan being almost four times the industry average. You pay annually in Czech koruna (CZK), and the minimum yearly commitment could be offputting for some people. However, you can first try the hosting for a month for free.
The customer support team is available from 8 am to 5 pm on weekdays via telephone (including a hotline number), ICQ, email, and an online contact form. You can also make contact via Facebook or Twitter, or request a callback by filling out this form:
I couldn’t contact the company via social media, and my exploratory email went unanswered.
You will find some simple self-support resources on the website, limited to a few FAQs plus settings for email and FTP.
