ColorHost began in 2009, so they are a relatively new website hosting provider. However, they already currently host over 1,000 websites and 1,200 game servers. Their servers are located in Canada and their website is available in English. Their website is impressive, modern, and very professional.
Features and Ease of Use
ColorHost is a website hosting provider that offers a simple yet impressive selection of plans. They offer shared hosting, reseller hosting, virtual private servers, and game hosting.
Their shared hosting packages include the following features:
- 99.9% uptime guarantee
- Free daily backups with JetBackup
- Domain registration at additional cost
- From 100 add-on domains to unlimited, dependent on plan
- Free Let’s Encrypt SSL certificate
- 20GB to unlimited disk space, dependent on plan
- 50GB to unlimited bandwidth, dependent on plan
While there is not very much information on their website about their data centers, they do have a clearly defined service level agreement of 99.99% uptime. I also spoke to their live chat operator who told me their servers are housed in a Canadian data center called BHS, which is located in Beauharnois, CA. And, while the operator had not heard of the tiered classification of data centers, he confirmed they would be classified as Tier IV based on their specifications, as they have redundancy in place and UPS backup in case of fault. Tier IV data centers are the best quality and tend to be the most expensive for the consumer, and both planned and unplanned outages will not cause any downtime or interruption to the infrastructure.
They also have a lot of beginner-friendly tools. Firstly, their website builder is very sleek. It can be used for e-commerce and regular websites, and it comes with a drag-and-drop builder and a massive 2,000 templates, which are mobile responsive. What’s even more impressive, is that this is all free of charge with website hosting. There is no extra cost for the website building tool or for use of the templates.
Pricing and Support
I was expecting ColorHost to be really expensive, considering the quality of their service. I was happily surprised. They’re definitely not the cheapest, however, they are at an excellent price point when compared to both local and international providers. Worth pointing out, but not a huge deal breaker, domain registration is an added cost.
They only offer two packages of shared hosting, and both include a great standard of specifications. For example, the base package includes 20GB disk space, 50GB bandwidth, 100 domains, a website builder, and a one-click installer, which is more than enough for most website owners.
They advertise an offer that domains are free with annual plans, though upon checkout, it was only possible to pay for monthly contracts. They offer a 30-day money-back guarantee and you can cancel at any time. To be honest, the pricing and terms are all really straightforward and simple. They’re right when they say that they commit to no hidden costs!
Their customer service is excellent. They offer 24/7 support via email, live chat, and telephone. They offer support in English only, reflecting their North American customer base. Every time I’ve reached out to them on live chat, the operator has been quick to respond and highly knowledgeable. I’m truly impressed with the quality of their support. The only minor drawback is that their knowledge base contains only a few help documents.
