Founded in 2008, Netherlands-based Bitency sells virtual private servers, dedicated servers, and colocation. It is a RIPE NCC member and SIDN registrar. Bitency has inactive social profiles and a website that can be switched between the Dutch and English languages.
Features and Ease of Use
Bitency sells a variety of enterprise-level hosting services (VPS and dedicated servers). With this vendor, you can expect to benefit from:
- 99.9% uptime guarantee
- Daily automatic backups
- Full root access
- Up to 500 GB traffic
- Up to 40 GB monthly traffic
Bitency’s data center is located in Rijen, the Netherlands. Its fully-redundant infrastructure includes UPS, emergency generators and air conditioning, and its high-quality network equipment is provided by Cisco, HP, and Foundry. The industry-average 99.9% uptime guarantee doesn’t have any compensation detailed in the terms and conditions (as far as I can see).
This vendor’s VPS plans provide you with full root access, so you can install and configure any applications you like. These virtual servers are easy to scale, and you get 24/7 reboot/reinstallation plus your choice of operating system: CentOS, Debian, Ubuntu, or FreeBSD.
Pricing and Support
Bitency’s prices are very low, with the VPS plans being as cheap as some vendors’ shared hosting. There are no discounts, and there is no money-back guarantee (as far as I can see). The only contract terms are monthly, but this is not unusual for VPS and dedicated server solutions.
You can customize your server at the checkout by increasing the disk space and memory, adding IP addresses, selecting a control panel, and choosing your operating system. Obviously, the more resources you add, the higher the monthly cost, but nothing is overly expensive.
During working hours on weekdays, you can reach Bitency’s sales, helpdesk, disruptions, or abuse departments by telephone or email. Unlike self-service shared hosting vendors, VPS and dedicated server sellers don’t always offer self-support resources, so I wasn’t surprised not to find any here.
