Features and Ease of Use
247-host features an array of different types of hosting to suit a variety of customer needs. These include regular shared and business SSD hosting, reseller hosting, Linux-based VPS, Windows-based VPS, and dedicated servers.
The shared hosting service includes many great features such as:
- Softaculous auto-installer with 300+ applications
- Unlimited MariaDB databases
- Unlimited bandwidth and storage
- Free SSL certificates
- cPanel installation on CloudLinux OS
- Free website migration service
- 99.9% uptime guarantee
- Choice of server location in the U.S., Canada, or Europe
Along with these standard shared features, 247-host’s business SSD plans will give your website a boost with:
- 20x faster load times with pure SSD storage
- An additional choice of server location (Asia)
- Fewer users per server (and therefore faster speeds)
- SSH access
One of the main benefits that I appreciated about 247-host is the ability to choose your preferred server location. While the company is based in Canada, it’s also got a selection of servers based in Singapore, the U.S., and Europe, giving you better proximity to your target readership and therefore better speed-to-market.
On top of that, 247-host is one of the rare providers that offers anti-DDoS attack mitigation with its shared hosting plans. This, combined with the Cloudflare CDN and LiteSpeed Web Server setup, offers you greater stability and security with your shared hosting.
But one of the most surprising aspects of 247-host I found was that despite the rather dated look of its website, it offers an excellent selection of beginner-friendly features such as the RVsitebuilder tool – a drag-and-drop WYSIWYG website builder enabling you to set up a decent-looking website without any coding knowledge.
Pricing and support
247-host offers very competitive month-to-month and long-term contract prices. A host should provide a mix of value and functionality, and this is the overall impression that I got from 247-host’s offerings.
Note that 247-host does offer a promotional rate for the initial term. After this, the price goes up a fair bit, but remains competitive. When I compared 247-host’s entry-level offering with similar offerings from competitors, I found its prices around 15% higher than the lowest-priced major providers while its entry-level SSD hosting plans came in around 20% higher on average.
There’s also a 45-day full money back guarantee available, so you can try out the shared hosting service risk-free.
A note regarding support and the FAQ/knowledge base: I had a question for support and opted to contact them through the live chat feature. It was after business hours (around 9pm U.S./Canada time). I received an email response from customer service within five minutes, which answered my question. For this, they get a big thumbs up.
I feel much safer using 247-host’s service knowing that it offers round-the-clock support. However, I found that the link to the knowledge base was broken.
I also found some complaints online mentioning that when customers called for support, they didn’t speak to a live representative but were asked to email instead. If you prefer speaking to a live tech support agent, this might be frustrating for you. However, I received such a quick response to my query via email that I believe any issue would be resolved promptly.
