Wix Extends Tap to Pay For Android
Wix recently introduced Tap to Pay capabilities for Android in the US, turning any compatible device into a mobile point-of-sale (POS) terminal without the need of external hardware.
Merchants with an Android 9 or later device can now provide customers with a secure way to pay from any location. Payment methods accepted include credit cards, debit cards, and Google Pay or other digital wallets.
Earlier this year, Wix released the Tap to Pay feature for iPhones to US-based Wix merchants through its expanding partnership with Stripe.
“Our expanded partnership with Stripe enables merchants to turn their Android devices into a POS terminal so they can readily embrace the future of contactless payments,” said Amit Sagiv and Volodymyr Tsukur, the heads of Wix Payments, adding that Stax is committed to “providing merchants with the best tools to succeed online and offline, streamline their operations, and efficiently serve their customers.”
John Affaki, Terminal Business Lead at Stripe, is also thrilled about this venture. “We’re excited to partner with Wix to provide this easy, cost-effective, no-code way to accept payments in more entrepreneurs’ pockets.”
Tap to Pay on Android is available for Wix customers with compatible devices using Wix for eCommerce, bookings, and events solutions. Users who wish to take advantage of this new capability must download the Wix Owner App, create a Wix Payment account, and set up Tap to Pay.
Users will need to enable Near Field Communication (NFC), a technology that enables wireless connections between devices, typically at a distance of 4 cm or less. Android users can enable this capability via Settings. Users with an existing card reader will be able to use both methods.
