Squarespace Rolls Out Subscription Features
Due to a 50% increase in users monetizing content on its platform, leading SaaS website builder Squarespace is rolling out new subscription features for digital entrepreneurs.
New content monetization features include blog paywalls, video subscriptions, and tools for creating bundles and tiered plans. Users with a Squarespace Business or Commerce plan can access the new subscription features through their existing plan, while Squarespace Personal users can purchase the Digital Products Add-On plan to access them.
Blog writers can now earn passive income from their written content by locking blog pieces behind paywalls. Squarespace’s blog paywalls allow users to set a desired price and choose how they want to charge for their content, whether through one-time or recurring payments. Bloggers can show a preview of the paywall-protected blog post to attract potential readers to pay for the entire piece or become a premium member to unlock more blog posts.
Next, Squarespace will give video content creators more ways to earn from their content. Squarespace’s video subscriptions allow creators to “place a paywall directly on a video player” or charge for access to their video library. Like bloggers, video content creators can also choose to show a selection of videos for free to entice viewers to pay for more content.
Entrepreneurs can also create tiered offerings. Tiered content “engages customers” and provides access to content “regardless of their finances.” For example, entrepreneurs can offer free blog posts, set certain content or videos behind a paywall, and group their content into packages for courses and member sites. Squarespace also provides the option for subscribers to pay in installments.
“Modern entrepreneurs are looking for a platform adaptable enough to bring all of their ideas and creativity to life,” said Paul Gubbay, Chief Product Officer at Squarespace. “From writing articles, to posting video content and creating multimedia online courses – we are committed to lowering the barrier of entry for anyone looking to share their knowledge online.”
Squarespace is continuously working on developing tools for digital creators to monetize their content. Previously, Squarespace launched Courses, a tool for building, selling, and promoting high-quality courses online.
The SaaS website builder is big on innovation. In the past few years, Squarespace introduced hundreds of new features, including improved client invoicing, enterprise solutions, and an array of generative AI features.
