Grammarly Introduces AI Writing Support for Mobile

Ivana Shteriova Written by:
Grammarly, one of the world’s most popular writing and proofreading assistants, introduced a generative AI-powered rewrite feature for mobile. The enhanced mobile support enables users to improve their on-the-go communications.

Previously only available through Grammarly’s web version, both premium and free users can now access the updated Grammarly on iOS and Android. Unlike the traditional Grammarly, which provides suggestions in the form of words and phrases, the AI-powered Grammarly for mobile can completely rewrite entire paragraphs.

To get AI assistance, users need to highlight the text they want to enhance and select an option from the built-in prompts based on their needs. Some of the available prompts include “make it persuasive,” “rewrite for a general audience,” and “paraphrase it.” Non-native English speakers can use the “sound fluent” prompt to enhance their communication with English speakers.

The Grammarly keyboard allows users to take advantage of AI writing assistance across any mobile app like Snapchat, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Gmail.

According to Grammarly, 50% of professionals use their phones for business communication daily, while 80% text for work at least once a week. As many as 40% of working individuals spend at least half of their workday away from their computers.

“With more people working from their phones, there’s a major need for quality AI writing support everywhere we communicate,” said Tal Oppenheimer, Head of Product, Client Apps. “We’re aiming to ensure professionals feel confident they can do quality work from anywhere.”

Grammarly is also working on more AI features for mobile aimed at simplifying, speeding up, and enhancing on-the-go written communication. One of the features is providing contextually relevant responses to emails. This feature will launch in Q1 2024 for Grammarly for Android users.

In addition to Grammarly’s mobile rewriting capabilities, users can access its tone detector and classic writing suggestions from their mobile phones.

Like Grammarly, many tech companies are making efforts to enhance their platforms with generative AI capabilities. For example, Google has incorporated Duet into its Workspace suite to enable Docs users to rewrite phrases and generate paragraphs with just prompts. Grammarly’s rewriting features, however, can work across any app because they integrate into the mobile keyboard.
