Designers, stay away from 99designs
I’ve been working on 99design for more than 10 years and have more than 700 of completed projects, but since 2020 I have only bad experience. It seems like the politics of this site has changed in the worst way. 99designs absolutely don’t respect their designers (that bring them money btw), designers don’t have any voice or rights, they are nothing for 99design, just an expendable material; clients can do whatever comes into their head and they are always right, 99designs are always on their side, for example clients get your designs, you work with them for a month, they waste your time in projects and suddenly decide not to pay for your work and 99designs are totally fine with that, and they even can do a full money refund to a client. Before 2020 there were more than 70 label/packaging design contests, now it’s about 15; I used to have about 10 projects per month, but now it’s a big event if I have just 1 project per month. 99designs don’t attract new clients to the platform anymore, as a result there is only just a little work and absolutely undeserved disrespect.
I am a designer at 99designs. What i would say is they are more of pleasing the client than the designer and rules are regularly broken by designers and nothing happens. A designer comes up with an idea, its rated higher and later on other designers copy that design then one of the copy cats wins it. Is that fair A waste of time for designers.
I did a lot of research, including websiteplanet. I was really nervous because of the negative reviews on most of these crowdsourcing sites. I ended up choosing 99designs because I found out a colleague also used them for their logo. I chose the cheapest option $299. Within 10 minutes I began receiving designs. I ultimately received about 170 over the week. The designers were very responsive and modified the images at request. About 15% of the logos were SPECTACULAR and for $299 I would have been happy with any of them. In the end, I received exactly what I hoped for - files and all. I seriously couldn't be happier with the outcome.
Logos at 99 designs are not created with unique ideas. I have examples to show that copied and 20-30% modified logos are being submitted by the designers over there. They depict that they have higher standards for a designer to allow him/her to work on 99designs. While when you see the designs submitted in contests, the submissions are not of top-quality rather they are basic or medium level.
I participated in a website design contest long ago. Another designer 60% copied my design and made an entry into the same contest and won the prize.
A good site for finding a designer. My work colleague and I launched our project and urgently needed a designer with taste, we came across this service, the cost and terms were arranged, we agreed and got an excellent job on time. Thank you very much!
My new project required a logo. I have been familiar with this service for a long time, once they drew me a logo for one of the projects. For a new project, it was done on time, efficiently, let's look at the reaction of customers with this logo :)
I was shocked by the work of technical support. They responded to my request for about 3-4 days, which is a very long time by my standards. I hope the authors of the project read the reviews here, correct this point, otherwise it is just inconvenient to use this service.
They are a scam, they pay "designers" very little and they just copy logos from the internet. Logos are copyrighted, most of them from free logo generators or free templates. They have refused to refund. Do not buy you are better finding a local artist.
