Attractive Templates, but Only If You Upgrade

MailMunch has five form types to choose from:

• Popup
• Top bar
• Scroll box
• Landing page
• Embedded

The number of templates for each form type varies. For example, the popup category has 20 form templates, and most of these are also available for the other form types (except top bar).

The templates are professionally designed and are certainly eye-catching, but if you choose to stay with the free plan, you’re limited to just two basic, unattractive form templates. All you can customize on them (style-wise, at least) is the colors of the background and the button.

Editing and customizing your MailMunch forms is pretty simple, but there’s a limited number of pre-defined form fields you can use. You can, however, add custom form fields, including dropdown and checkbox fields.

Form templates for MailMunch are solely meant for list building. However, you could use one as a contact form by adding more fields. All of the templates are mobile responsive — and you can preview how your form will look on a mobile device, too.

Essential Tools for Lead Generation, but Nothing Spectacular

You can create unlimited forms with MailMunch, but the free version limits you to displaying your forms on a single website and doesn’t include analytics or reporting. Paid plans allow the use of forms on multiple websites (depending on the plan), analytics, email notifications, and (on higher-tier plans) custom CSS and tracking pixels.

Form fields are relatively limited – suited for capturing customer data – but you can create your own fields. Options include text fields, consent fields, dropdown fields, and checkbox fields.

Easy Integrations

All plans – including the free plan – support a range of integrations, allowing you to connect your forms to your favorite customer relationship management (CRM) platform (e.g., Mailchimp or GetResponse). You can also connect to Zapier for access to hundreds of automated actions, such as automatically creating an entry in Google Sheets every time a new form is submitted.

Advanced Display Rules

Display rules in MailMunch allow you to customize when your website visitors see your subscription forms. The default setting is to show your form when visitors have scrolled down 50% of your web page, but you can easily change this setting.

Other customizations include the number of days before visitors are shown your forms again, what type of devices your forms are shown on, ad tracking pixels, and whether to enable or disable spam protection and Google ReCAPTCHA protection.

Exit-Monitoring Technology

If you choose a paid plan with MailMunch, you can use the built-in system to try to capture visitors’ information before they abandon your website. The exit-monitoring technology automatically displays a lightbox popup with a subscribe button when it detects that a visitor is about to leave your website. Although this isn’t guaranteed to capture more leads, it is a handy feature.

The MailMunch form builder is perfect for beginners since it has an intuitive seven-step process. It takes just a few minutes to build, configure, and publish your first form.

Step-by-Step Form Building

MailMunch breaks down form building into a series of foolproof steps. Most of the settings are toggle switches, dropdown options, and text boxes. This makes it one of the easiest form builders available.

Apps for Automatic Form Display

To make adding forms to your website as easy as possible, MailMunch has plugins or apps that work with the most popular website building platforms – WordPress, Shopify, and Weebly. When you select your platform, MailMunch gives you step-by-step instructions for installing the plugin/app and using it to create, edit, and display your forms.

If you don’t use one of these platforms, you can still use MailMunch, but you’ll have to copy and paste the generated HTML embed code for each form instead.

Drag-and-Drop Editor

Like the majority of online form builders, MailMunch uses an intuitive drag-and-drop editor that allows you to easily rearrange fields on your forms. Your changes are instantly displayed in the preview panel on the right-hand side – and you can toggle between mobile and desktop views, too.

Building a form with MailMunch is so simple my 8-year-old nephew could do it – and he had great fun in the process! And if you get stuck, you can always click on the blue help button at the bottom right of your screen.

If you click on the form settings button in the top right of the editor, you’ll see how stripped back the builder really is. There are literally just three settings – the form title, its status, and the list that you want subscribers to be added to.

Getting help with MailMunch is straightforward. There’s a Help & Support section on the main website, which includes a Getting-Started Guide, FAQ, and a button to submit a support request. You can also access the MailMunch community forum – but it’s just for feature requests currently (and is also full of spam comments).

The availability of support isn’t stated on the website, nor is the average response time. Submitting a ticket is the only way of contacting the support team – there’s no live chat or phone number. If you opt for the Agency plan, you will be given priority when you submit a support request.

The Help button in the editor opens a mini version of the support page and includes a link for sending a support request via Zendesk. You can request support on the free plan – but getting an actual response isn’t guaranteed. I submitted a support request and still hadn’t heard back a week later. At that point, do you even remember the problem?

There’s a knowledge base for commonly asked questions – but I found this to be incredibly basic and not much help overall.

MailMunch offers reasonably priced monthly and annual pricing options, along with the free plan. Aside from the free plan, the platform provides three paid options – Silver, Gold, and Agency. The paid plans deliver a more extensive array of features compared to the free plan, with the Agency plan granting you the capability to utilize MailMunch across an unlimited number of websites.

If you’re serious about using MailMunch for lead generation and growing your business, you will need to upgrade to a paid plan. The Silver plan removes the MailMunch branding and gives you analytics – but to use premium themes (which are much more likely to generate leads), you need the Gold plan or above.

The Gold plan isn’t much more expensive than the Silver plan, but it packs in many more features – including custom CSS, advanced analytics, and A/B testing. You could, of course, sign up for the Gold plan and use the 60-day money-back period to get leads before canceling. It’s not a bad way to test out the form builder!
