Business Lessons From 503 Clients Clients by Radios en Internet CEO Diego Carlotta

Roberto Popolizio Written by:
In this interview series by Website Planet, I talk to digital business leaders, who share their untold truths, tips, stories and insights on what it really takes to build a successful online business. A deep dive into decades of hands-on experience that will immediately help you build and grow your online presence.

Diego Carlotta is the CEO of Greenlight Media, which offers various digital services including audio streaming, hosting, and domain registration for 503 clients. We will discuss one of his 12 projects, Radios en Internet, his company specializing in streaming professional services.

What specific gaps in your industry sparked the idea for your company? Can you share that story with us?

My Podcast studio grew out of an offshoot of other activities I’ve been doing for a few years, and I had experimented in 2015 with an Internet radio show to which I added video to make it more enjoyable.

It was a success… as everything lasts a short time. But it came up when I least expected and in an improvised way, something I wanted to do for many years, and in one way or another the possibility arose at the right time and the right moment to carry it out.

Fast forward, what results make you most proud so far? Can you share metrics and stories that show the difference you’re making?

The result that I am most proud of is that I carried out this undertaking exactly the way I wanted, and did not let myself be carried away by the market current. I chose a niche market that involves selling my services with a high standard of quality and that has a price.

The price is slowly growing, and for a moment you may think you have failed, but even so, I have remained firm with my business plan that remains solid and little by little is finding its way to growth as I proposed, without deviating from the plan or tempted to do something cheaper and make money faster. That is not my goal, but although tempting, I have allowed myself to follow the path towards my goal.

What are the things you wish someone told you when you first started? Why are they crucial and what made you realize that?

All of us who started a new business would have liked someone to show us the right way to achieve success quickly. But that is neither the path nor the luck of the entrepreneur.

Entrepreneurship means failing over and over again and getting up again to try one more time until you finally succeed. No successful entrepreneur has ever been free from failure, everyone goes through the same process because “failure is the road to success”.

Are there things that you wish you had done sooner in terms of growth? How did they impact your revenue, and how can people apply them immediately?

When you start with the right money, you have the faith that you can achieve it quickly with your effort, dedicating many hours of work. The truth is that then you find yourself with many competitors stronger than you, economically speaking, and the fight becomes a little uneven, so you have two possible ways:

  1. Follow your path alone, which will be harder and slower
  1. Look for investors who will allow you to grow faster, but you will lose independence and even control of your dream. That is why I have chosen the first option. It is my life option, but you can choose the second one if you want if you find it more practical with your life plan.

What new features or updates are you planning to introduce, and what other trends or technologies are you keeping an eye on? What challenges or opportunities will they bring to people in your industry?

The key to my studio is to constantly innovate with the new applicable technologies that emerge as a daily bread. I am always attentive to new trends because the public is updated so fast, that if you do not pay attention to these details your business will be stagnant and that will bring you a few new customers and even lose a few of those you thought you had for sure.

The key is to keep updating and innovating constantly.

If there was one unconventional piece of advice you wish our readers could bring home from this interview, what would it be?

Pursue your dreams and don’t stop until you achieve them.
