How was Slash founded and what obstacles did you have to overcome to get to where you are now as a company?

I co-founded Slash with a business partner eight years ago. Our vision was to create a company that could build innovative digital companies while maintaining a sustainable business model that supports both our personal goals and needs.

We structured the company around two core pillars:
  • Service-Oriented Business: Providing software design and development services to clients.
  • Entrepreneurial Collaboration: Partnering with entrepreneurs to build and launch new companies centered around digital products.
We were fortunate to start with two reputable companies from our network as clients. This gave us credibility and a strong foundation early on. However, building Slash wasn’t without challenges.

One of the primary obstacles we’ve faced—and continue to face—is educating the market on the value of quality. Many potential clients prioritize cost over quality, especially in Southeast Asia. As a boutique company with extensive expertise and a commitment to delivering high-value outcomes, our pricing often slightly exceeds that of traditional dev shops in the region.

Overcoming this requires time and effort to demonstrate the long-term benefits of working with a team like ours. Thankfully, when clients do choose us, they typically become long-term partners, which has allowed us to build strong, lasting relationships and a solid reputation.

What is GenAl and how can companies leverage GenAI for their businesses?

GenAI, or generative AI, refers to artificial intelligence designed to create content in response to user-provided inputs, known as “prompts.” The outputs of generative AI can include text, images, audio, video, and even more complex media. Essentially, it’s a tool for generating tailored content based on specific needs.

Our web and mobile services are a cornerstone of what we do and have been a core focus since the company was founded eight years ago. From the beginning, we brought extensive expertise to the table, and over the years, these services have grown into a highly mature offering.

We provide end-to-end solutions, encompassing all major tech stacks for web and mobile development. However, our approach goes beyond just coding. We have a dedicated team specializing in design and user research to ensure that the products we build align with the needs and desires of our clients’ users. This includes everything from wireframing and prototyping to usability testing and design experiments.

Our development process is grounded in iterative methodologies. We adopt agile practices, employing frameworks like Scrum or Kanban based on the specific project context. This allows us to be flexible, ensuring frequent iterations and continuous improvements throughout the development cycle.

Additionally, we aim to grow our venture studio, which supports entrepreneurs in turning their visions into successful companies. Our efforts are backed by data, as we frequently conduct internal surveys and feedback sessions to gauge how our team feels. We maintain a consistently high internal Net Promoter Score, which is a testament to how satisfied and engaged our team is.
