Can you give us a brief overview of Kaymera as a company and share a few details about its founding story?
Kaymera is a defensive cyber security company, that provides military-grade security on prime cellular devices (Google pixel) and secure communication applications, all controlled and managed by a Web remote Management console Kaymera was founded in 2013 by the same founders of NSO with the mission of building a defensive secure communication that will protect users/companies and even governments from the growing offensive tools that were in the market, and in which NSO itself was taking part in. even the name Kaymera was selected because, in the Greek mythology, Kaymera was the creature who killed Pegasus (which is known as one of the most powerful offensive tools created by NSO) Even though Kaymera Solutions was used in many delicate places and events, Kaymera’s name intentionally was kept secret, and most of our top clients came to us after we were recommended by intelligence agencies (we do very little PR) For example: In the G20 that was in Indonesia 2 years ago, all the prime ministers and presidents were using Kaymera during the summit. How do you ensure that your clients’ phone calls and chats stay private?
This is a very tricky question. Many Communication Applications claim to have end-to-end encryption, and that gives their users the falls feeling that their calls and chats are secure. In reality, it is not true for main two reasons:- Many of those Applications keep the data and the metadata on their servers. This makes it a risk to the data owners as those servers are frequently hacked, but more importantly, those companies are obligated to county laws that obligate them to deliver any data of their clients in case the court requests it.
- The Applications are running as a service on a non-secure phone, so if the phone is attacked and spyware is installed on the device, it does not matter that the communication in the network is end-to-end encrypted, all the data, and that includes the calls and the chats are decrypted on the phone itself. The bottom line if the phone is not secured the data is not secured.
What can you tell me about your “Encrypted Phone” and do you offer this service for all smartphones?
Our encrypted phone is basically our own operation system which is based on Android and installed on Google Pixel devices. The fact it is based on Android gives our users the ability to use it like a regular Android device, with almost the same interface, and with the ability to download from Google Play Store all the applications they are using on their personal phone, and by that they do not need to carry two phones with them. One phone will serve as their personal phone and will have a military-grade security on it. The fact it is installed on a Google pixel device is also something which defers us from our competitors. While other secured devices have their own hardware which leaves a footprint whenever they are connected to cellular antennas with their unique IMEI and IMSI numbers, our devices leave no footprint as they are regular phones with regular IMEI and IMSI numbers. So while our competitors become targeted and monitored everywhere they connect to mobile networks, Kaymera devices are off the radar. At the moment we only install our OS on Google Pixel devices, but our next generation will be easier to implement on many other devices and moreover not limited to Cellular devices but any Android device out there. What other services do you offer?
Kaymera is now part of TAM-C group, which is a global company that provides many security services. We are in the process of iterating some of the TAM-C capabilities into the Kaymera services and vice versa. If we look only at Kaymera services, we provide several levels of solutions. Starting from End-user, a family guy who just wants to protect his data, and can buy the service on our multi-tenant system, and it can go up to Governments, corporations, and security companies who buy the whole system including a VPC (Virtual Private Cloud) and get the ability to control their devices and Applications like in an MDM system but with much more capabilitiesAre there any upcoming projects or features coming from Kaymera that we could be looking forward to?
As a security company, we tend to keep this information to ourselves, but as I mentioned earlier, we do have plans to grow and secure any Android devices and not just mobile phones. To learn more about Kaymera, you can visit kaymera.com
