Our guest today is Jennifer Tremblay, CEO of DINR, a free mobile app helping over 200,000 users find exclusive and same-day reservations at Canada’s most coveted, awarded and sought-after restaurants. They also have a consumer membership program, host cool culinary events, and are soon launching a global hotel collection.

She explained how the power of curation and exclusivity allows DINR to help restaurants maximize occupancy and revenue while allowing guests to find unique access to the most coveted culinary destinations.

Restaurants and their customers have two problems in common

Restaurants are still recovering from the pain of the pandemic, so guest quality and accountability matters more than ever. At the same time, guests are also more interested in experiences than ever before, and societally, last-minute or in-the-moment planning is becoming more popular – at least in dining.

So it’s clear that there’s a general trend towards great culinary experiences so having the ability to unlock these great experiences for everyone, in a simple and highly accessible way, is something we’ve brought to market.

Think about your own journey traveling… How many apps do you check to choose a restaurant?

How many restaurant social media profiles or websites do you scour, or review websites do you sift through? It’s time consuming and there’s nothing curated on the market that you can inherently trust. We exist to solve that and also be a trusted source for great experiences and special access.

From a restaurant perspective, we drive net new revenue, increase exposure and provide valuable marketing, plus proprietary and seamless technology (since we layer onto their OpenTable, Resy or Tock instances). We also give them access to a highly appreciative guest network that is accountable and tends to spend more.

Another pressing problem for restaurants is no-shows. Let’s assume an award-winning 30 person restaurant, which churns 2.5x/night with per person average spend of $150.

That’s $11,250 per night at full capacity, and 18-20% no-show rate – which is typical for all major reservation platforms – translates into $2250 in lost revenue per night, or several hundred thousand dollars per year. That’s why some restaurants in larger Canadian cities are now asking customers to pay upfront when booking.

Since you started, what helped you grow and retain your audience?

Continually offering new restaurants, being mindful of calibre and quality and regularly releasing new features has allowed us to grow organically. We also have some very interesting new partnerships that will enable an explosive next chapter.

How are you doing today and what’s in the roadmap for the future?

We’ll be finishing our launch across Canada this year, and we’ll be looking to break into new markets next year. We’re soon also launching a Global Hotel Collection and several other partnerships with other top tier travel and hospitality groups that we know our audience will love.
