A Dedicated IT Freelance Website With First Class Service
Elance is one of the more reliable places that you can head to these days to hire a freelancer. They do a great job of fending of spammers and low-quality freelance ‘artists’ while providing a service that is both great for employee and employers. They mainly focus their attention around the IT market, but do offer a bigger variety of subjects these days.
If you are new to the market then Elance is probably one of the most user-friendly platforms available and does a good job of making beginners comfortable in a niche that can surprise and confuse.
Why Choose Elance?
- Famous for its reliability
- Easy and secure place to start for newbies
- Totally free
Wondering if Elance is the best option for getting your project done?
Let us tell you about it!
Variety & Quality
A General Purpose Freelance Site With Quality Assured
With a massive user base Elance aren’t short of providing you with the best freelancers out there, and pride themselves on giving quality over quantity. What makes Elance better than most sites I hear you ask? It merely comes down to the fact that you get what you pay for. Most jobs are slightly higher priced than your average sites which isn’t a negative point because you end up with a higher level of skill, greater reliability and high-end results.
Despite the fact that Elance tried to stray away from its initial IT-oriented specialization towards becoming a general-purpose freelance website, the IT portfolios and job postings still prevail on the site. Rather than leaving you browse through numerous portfolios and vacancies Elance’s smart systems prepare customized lists of jobs and portfolios that may interest you every few days and deliver it to your e-mail account.
The skill levels of most of the freelancers using Elance for work range from intermediate to high-enders and even A-listers. However, about a year ago Elance lost a fair share of its high class workers since many of the writers and more artistically-inclined professionals boycotted and finally quit Elance after the introduction of infamous Work View time-tracking application. Most of the freelancers who left considered this program to be on par with regular spyware. If you like the idea of being the Big Brother for the people you hire, bear it in mind that not all of the freelancers who stayed would jump at the idea of ever using this software.
Will You Call Me Afterwards?
Okay, we totally agree that is might be all our fault, and there are thousands of people out there who can swear by Elance’s registration system, but the robot that was supposed to call us and dictate some numbers for us to input into the security form to verify our account simply refused to do that. We tried 4 different SIM-cards belonging to different operators from different countries, but all this bore no results. Other people get the jinxed machine to call them, we couldn’t. Apart from the uncommunicative robot caller the registration process is simple – you get to choose if you would like to register as a freelancer or an employer, you answer a couple of questions and finish the registration through an e-mail verification. The robot caller is only necessary if you would like to gain an advanced level of registration so don’t worry.
Otherwise the usability of the site is plain awesome, the navigation is intuitive and the only other let-down in usability is the aforementioned infamous Work View application on the other side of the fence – some freelancers outright hate it and refuse to work with you if you insist on using it.
Function and Style
The IT roots still show a great deal when it comes to the features of Elance. However, the seemingly spartan scarcity is also lightened up by such features as “Water Cooler” (a sort of a discussion board for the bored and seeking communication) and a variety of free productivity widgets. The hiring procedure is rather standard – freelancers are welcome to bid on your job posting, all the communication between the client and the employee should take place on-site, disclosure of personal contacts is forbidden.
Through its features – all of which are completely free – Elance provides you with everything you’ll ever need as an employer in a freelance world.
The Best Things In Life Are Free
Registration and all the apps and features of Elance are completely free of charge. The only time you need to pay is when the exact payment for a project takes place. Elance takes its cut in the form of 8.75% of the hourly fee. When the payment is made Elance takes its share and transfers the rest into the freelancer’s account – that is if you are completely satisfied with the quality of the work.
The payment protection and dispute resolution system used on this website is the special Elance Escrow.
- Payment System – Built-in payment system that you load through your credit card
- Payment Protection – Elance Escrow through small deposits from the both sides of the agreement
- Payment Disputes – Elance Escrow and the Work View screen-shot-taking program which ensures that a freelancer in question has indeed been working throughout the billed hours

Elance is a great site for getting moderately-priced things done by highly skilled and respected freelance specialists. This site is initially free and is easy to navigate, this is why we would recommend Elance to the newcomers in the world of freelancing. Here you’ll find all the necessary tools and and technical support you’ll ever need for your work.
